Step 4) Uploading Files It's now time to publish your website. You must transfer your files from your PC to your new web server. The most common "protocol" for sending information to your server is the File Transfer Protocol, or FTP. ftp is available as a standalone program on both Windows and UNIX/Linux based systems. You can run it at a DOS prompt or terminal window by typing: ftp your_domain.tld and typing your username and password. There are a series of commands (which you can see when you type the ? command), but we don't want to go into that at this time. The main reason being that there are many other user-friendly interfaces to the ftp program, like CuteFTP, FTP Explorer, etc. We go into greater detail on our online support site at EZ-Web.biz. You will receive the link when you sign up for web hosting. To continue on with the "big picture" of setting up your site, you just need to know that you must send your files to your new server. Once you've put your files on your new server, in the appropriate place, everyone in the world will be able to see them. Essentially, that's all there is to it. Obviously, there is much more that you can do with your website, but we cover these topics in our online support section. So, don't delay, sign up today. ![]() |
